Spent 20 minutes trying to find a thread that fit what I wanted but everyone seems to be willing to watch all of Star Trek. I tried TOS and while it’s not bad I don’t want to watch every single episode of Star Trek to get into the show…

What’s the best order to watch the most universally enjoyed Star Trek series’ and movies? I really enjoyed Lower Decks as a fan of Final Space and Strange New World’s looks incredible. I want to start with the earlier series but not have to watch all of it!

Meh, not really any interesting exploration of ideas, first episode was action, second one was courtroom drama with flawed premises, yeah Federation is against augments and it’s a bull-headed stance considering the universe they’re in, victory or loss in this courtroom doesn’t make me examine any philosophical position, it’s just random storytelling.

I read nods to undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers.

It has come a long way from the TOS days when their episode on racial discrimination was aliens with literal half black and half white faces, warring parties divided by which color was on which side of their bodies.

You can read them, but again it didn’t stimulate any contemplation on deeper interpretations or implications of the issue. It was just there.

I enjoyed the episode and saw what they were trying to do, but I think the premise fell flat as you knew there were no stakes here as they weren’t going to kill off two main characters. The dialog and cinematography also felt a little cheesy/hammy at times like we’ve seen a lot in Discovery which further detracted from the story for me.
