I am rocking an Xiaomi Gaming Laptop (i7 9th, GeForce 2060, 32Gb Ram) with PopOS installed since day one. It is working fine (a bit annoyed because there is no way of finding a new battery for replacement), but I was thinking of switching to something more open source and with Linux officially supported.

Anyone here with an Adder WS (or any other System76 laptop)? How do you find yourself with it? Mainly curious about the battery life.

Thank you for reading.

I have a s.76 Gazelle laptop, and it’s been going good for about 4 years now. I rarely use the battery, so it stays plugged in most of the time. It’s been good, and the battery remains charged at 100%.

I’ve also got a gazelle, nearly 5 years old - no complaints! I occasionally need to use it on battery and it’s pretty power hungry, but if you turn off Nvidia graphics for those times, it’s quite a bit better.

I have had an s76 wild dog which was amazing for an 11 year run, and I just replaced that with a meerkat. I also have a thelio which has been flawless. System76’s desktops are amazing.

In 2013 I bought a darter and it’s the worst laptop I’ve ever owned. I went through 4 keyboards and still it doesn’t work, also the wifi radio is under the keyboard and you get a 50% signal reduction when typing. It had one of those trapdoor Ethernet ports which broke, so I basically became a dead device. That is an old metric, but it scared me off from buying laptops from them until they get their own hardware pipeline for them.

I choose to be between Adder WS (RTX 4060) and Pangolin. Pangolin would be a downgrade from my RTX 2060 though.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, very appreciated. 🤙

      Thanks for sharing.

For a non-gaming choice I would go for the Pangolin. It has better graphics and AMD is better for Linux (?). Even though, it has 10h of battery life against the advertised 14h of the Lemur Pro.

It is so hard to pick, because I’m not even sure if I want to go for an ultra powerful or an ultraportable laptop.
