The grandmother of 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk, who was fatally shot by a police officer in a Paris suburb last week, has called for an end to the violent protests that have swept the country since his death.
The only reason protests work is that those in power understand that the next step could involve violent opposition. Though it’s more than a bit reductive, it’s not untrue to say MLK was only successful because Malcom X was the alternative.
I wonder how her grandson would feel.
