Interesting video and I think most people don’t give enough thought into what they put on something they use a huge chunk of the day that affects their entire body.

I’ve tried minimalist shoes in the past, a couple different vibrams and used them for short distance hiking, but I always understood that they’re just a different shoe for a different experience that also comes at a risk and that it’s not a replacement for all footwear. I loved that I could feel more of what’s under me, how breathable and light they were and they gave me a bit more flexibility to get a better grip on things like rocks and roots, but also gave me some protection against getting stabbed in the foot by rocks or glass or bugs whatever. But they clearly don’t provide any other support and you’re way more likely to roll your ankle as opposed to a proper hiking boot (especially in the beginning until you strengthen your muscles), so it’s not a solution for long distance hiking or being on your feet all day long or running for extended periods of time.

There’s a reason we have so many different kinds of shoes and like yeah wearing super bouncy running shoes or thongs all day probably isn’t great for you either, but you get a right tool for the right job. You’ll probably want a different shoe for walking around in the woods than for motorcycling or working on your feet all day or exercising. Nothing is a replacement for everything. If you’re able, invest in different kinds of footwear for different things and spend a little bit of money for a quality shoe.

I used to see people, women in particular, come to work in one type of shoe and then switch out to another shoe at work and didn’t get it. I dismissed it as a “women have tons of shoes lol”, but I get it now and I feel stupid for not getting it earlier.
