Although a Ukrainian counteroffensive has made few battlefield gains, Ukraine has been able to launch a series of attacks on Crimea, the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.

Ukraine struck a large Russian landing warship in Crimea with cruise missiles in an overnight attack that killed at least one person and could hinder any Russian attempt to seize more Ukrainian territory along the Black Sea coast.

The Russian defense ministry, cited by the Interfax news agency, said Ukraine had used air-launched missiles to attack the Crimean port of Feodosia and that the Novocherkassk large landing ship had been damaged.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had briefed President Vladimir Putin in detail about the attack, the Kremlin said. Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 in a move Kyiv and the West condemned as an illegal seizure.

Ukrainian Air Force Spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat said he thought it would be hard for the Novocherkassk — which can carry tanks and armored vehicles and be used to land troops ashore — to re-enter service.

And things like this are exactly why Ukraine needs to continue to receive lethal aid. More and more invading Russians are sent packing with every delivery.

It’s not even much, really. Countries send or sell things that get replaced by even newer weapons, and by germanese, american standards, these money are just a pocket change, that also include their MIC having new beefy orders and a PR campaign for them not involving any human losses on their side.

As it’s for NK and Iran on the other side. There you get factories building drones under their consulting, offices buying retired weapons. Every govt that’s not involved wins.

You can argue for less war spendings, and I could be with you, but they couldn’t magically decrease with russians taking Ukraine. If anything, poles, swedes, baltic countries could’ve only dumped more into their security budget and the US selling their new gear like hot pockets.

In order to play down this topic, there should be less insecurity about business in the region. It hurts the bottom line. And that’s what really affect policies.

The bulk of their recruitment is voluntary.

        • They offer large signing bonuses and get their minorities to enlist and get blown up.
        • Criminals are offered Amnesty for surviving 6 months in a stormZ unit.

Neither are forced. Russian civil unrest will only grow if enough of their soldiers don’t make it home. It will take a lot of Ukranian doing in order to combat years of propaganda. But now the government will be forced to spend 30pct of their budget on the military it will be harder and harder to maintain “special military operations” is going to plan.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The Russian defense ministry, cited by the Interfax news agency, said Ukraine had used air-launched missiles to attack the Crimean port of Feodosia and that the Novocherkassk large landing ship had been damaged.

Ukrainian Air Force Spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat said he thought it would be hard for the Novocherkassk — which can carry tanks and armored vehicles and be used to land troops ashore — to re-enter service.

Unverified social media videos purporting to capture the strike showed a vast explosion and ballooning flames lighting up the night sky.

An unverified daytime photograph, which Ukrainian bloggers claimed showed the ship’s remains, depicted a charred, elongated clump of debris emerging out of the water by a dock.

Although a Ukrainian counteroffensive has made little in the way of battlefield gains and the Russian military has regained the initiative in several places, Ukraine has been able to launch a series of attacks on Crimea, the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, inflicting serious damage.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy quipped on Telegram that his air force had added to Russia’s submarine fleet by damaging the landing ship.
