It’s a great reason until there’s an alternative. As long as voters look to gas prices for their votes, taking action that raises them is politically toxic.

Meanwhile leftists are literally criticizing the Biden administration for high gas prices’ impact on the working class.

You want to change it? Let’s change it. Starting with activists.

Which leftists are these? I’ve yet to run into them.

You want to change it? Let’s change it. Starting with activists.

I still haven’t been able to decipher what kinds of activists you’re alluding to.

that’s not an answer. sure go ahead and kill oil production, make gas prices high and give trump the presidency again. see how that works out for the environment.

I mean. It’s the only answer. You cant see the dominos start to fall like they have this year and decide “let’s pump more oil and maybe some Conservatives will vote for me over trump”. It’s too late and it was too late 10 years ago. This isn’t just a US problem. This is global societal breakdown in the next 10 - 20 years.

of course you can. the demand for oil/gas will be there regardless, people aren’t all going to stop driving ICE cars just because Biden cut all US oil production. it’s political suicide, not just for Biden but for US environmental policy in general.

It’s too late and it was too late 10 years ago.

And that is the crux of it. Meanwhile there is a pitched fight between reformists and whatever the latest flavor of denier is.

Of course, reformism in itself is a form of denialism this situation - an oil company couldn’t pay for better controlled opposition!

I see the masses complaining about activists impairing traffic, and my mind turns to how they would react to actions that would cause change with meaningful immediacy. People are shooting each other over inflation. They turn to their guns before their gardens, one of the most effective ways of reducing non-discretionary expenses for homeowners. The unfathomably complex supply chain is their hand that feeds. Their cargo cult worships it as more sacred than the soil that makes this all possible.

They already want to run people over for impairing traffic in an attempt to prevent extinction - what would happen if some activist made it so their petrol doesn’t pump anymore? I think we would have to start worrying less about climate change and more about drowning in the blood of their victims.

But we’re all victims here already, whether we realize it yet or not. It’s all very… absurd.

I was actually having a conversation earlier today about what to do when it’s already 10 years too late. My argument was that the same things that provided meaning when there was a possibility of change, are the same things that will provide meaning when there is no future: Giving, loving, being involved, acting to benefit life around you. Evolution hasn’t had time to catch up to capitalism (thank goodness).

Economic collapse is not an answer to anything. Let alone “the only answer”.

All it does is highlight how big of a threat environmentalists are to society

the economy is already collapsing. for us that is.

also oil only means collapse because they made it mandatory.

Economic collapse may be the best answer. Endless production and consumption of goods may make people have material improvements to their lives but it is… excessive.

What good is a dick sucking machine when humanity has driven 70% of species to extinction? Fuck humanity.

When ecological collapse kills off 70+% of the human population, you may be really wanting that dick sucking machine…

Yes, environmentalists are tools programmed to bring down society from the inside out. They believe that it’s noble to destroy society in order to save the environment
