TIL Star Trek’s (1966) theme song originally had lyrics written by Gene Roddenberry, who wrote them solely to usurp half of the royalties from composer Alexander Courage. The lyrics never aired.

'Star Trek': Words and Music

The theme to the original 'Star Trek' television series officially includes never-used lyrics.

And they were comically bad:

Beyond the rim of the star-light

Yeah GR was a bit of a dick it seems…

Trivia: the lyrics are given in the songbook that comes with the Suzuki OmniChord, model OM-84, page 21 of the manual

The Omnichords sort of looked like a weird Vulcan instrument, which is fitting I guess.

  I’m watching Enterprise right now. I swear he says “it’s been a long load, getting from there to here”. Annoys the crap out of me.
