Just watched @bret@dynamic.land 's talk about Dynamicland (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJm44LJDU44), and couldn't help but think about applications to the #fediverse They summarise their goals at the end with these ideals: * What if computing was like electric light which is available everywhere (whereas smartphones are like everyone carrying torches around instead) * What if programming was a universal literacy (to explore the ideas and problems meaningful for them) ... 1/

A little thread I wrote on masto after watching this talk by Bret Victor and reflecting on their stated ideals for how computing ought to be designed.

    Realistically, platforms on the fedi are much closer in design to their commercial conterparts than one would hope for if your goal was community building and situating the process of digital/online community building within the community themselves.

    It’s still relatively early days yet. A lot of Fediverse services mimic commercial ones because it makes it an easier pitch to people “it’s like that but open and privacy-respecting”. Hopefully, as they mature they’ll evolve away from this. In addition, now more people are comfortable with the Fediverse they’ll start to create new and unique platforms.
