Lately when I see old war photos I just think… they look so so so young. It’s a sad thought to have to go through this kind of experience so young, it’s going to shape who you are for the rest of your life.
This reminds me of the interviews in “they shall now grow old” where multiple men say that they joined the British military for WW1 younger than the age limit (like 16 when the age limit was 18) because they really wanted to defeat the enemy and make their country proud.
It’s a really great documentary, I highly recommend watching it.
Just the Swiss military showing off at an expo here, but I feel you on that. Half the time when I see war photos anymore I think “Jesus, they’re just kids.”
