It’s interactive media. Why just watch when you can do?
It’s not really surprising. Maybe Hideo Kojima and his massive interactive movies were ahead of their time.
Well, sometimes you don’t want to do. But yeah, overall you’re right.
They’re not that tired of life yet. Give them 15 more years.
When you don’t want to do, you can watch someone else do on twitch… I’m not even GenZ and I kind of do the same thing sometimes.
Or youtube, I get far more entertainment watching dankpods replace a cars oil with fucking chocolate than I do watching your average marvel movie. Deadpool and Wolverine was good though.
Make better movies
In my experience they mostly seem to watch somebody else play a video game.
Because recent movies suck, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, classic movies with just enough special effects to look good but not enough that spectacle compltely replaces plot. Basically everything in the predator/terminator/first 3 diehards time period.
Even effects-forward pieces like Jurassic Park still hold up because everyone on the island is a memorable character and the plot is exciting! Though it’s true that the constraints on effects might have caused that - the dinosaurs in that movie only had about 15 minutes of total screen-time, so they had to actually, y’know, write.
Yeah 80s/90s were the sweet spot for action movies. Most of them were naive and predictable, but also incredibly easy to digest. I’d say it was kind of WYSIWYG in movie space: good guys were good, bud guys were bad, plot was easy so your dog can comprehend it, no complicated backstory, no bullshit, just action and enjoyable fun.
The sad thing is something like diehard has a pretty nuanced plot compared to last few years of avengers movies.
At least this tiny percent of Gen X agrees.
Whoop whoop. Don’t forget me.
Yea, I can confirm.
I think it depends on many factors.
As a longtime movie lover, I find myself drawn towards games over movies now. I never thought it would happen to me but games can tell such great stories now that I have a hard time choosing a movie over a few hours of gaming. Weird for me to even admit that to myself since I wanted to make movies in my younger years.
