Honestly, I am mostly here for fun. If you see me writing some outrageous shit, most probably did so to see reactions of people.

  • I’ll admit - I do not mod story or companions. I mostly mod environment (adding green after nth playthrough through the brown slob) and dificulty/survival (Horizon my beloved). But yeah, I much prefer New Vegas approach, where followers spilled beans when you approached location that was important for them or were going through a quest that they had stakes in. Veronica and BoS bunker, Boone and the place where NCR brutalized Khans. This simply made sense. Also companions having opinion of you that mattered. YES I KNOW CODSWORTH YOU LIKE ME MODYFING ARMOR GAH.

And also I miss quests which branched and influenced each other. They were always rare but in Fo4 they are almost non-existent.

BTW, if you hand’t tried and do not yet despise Fo4, but want to see what potential lied in settlements, try Horizon. It’s more hardcorish survival overhaul, so it doesn’t like many mods, but damn it made settlements not only fun but also practical.

  • Oh…hemlo.

    Story

I call fallout 4 a good game but terrible fallout…HOWEVER. I do not agree the story was foreseeable or boring. The hints on the way pointed to possibilities but sure as hell I didn’t expect where the sonny ended up. But about factions - liked the twist of Brotherhood compared to lore, they shown both Lyons and Outcasts influence. There is nuance hidden in story of Minuteman…and yet Railroad and Institute both terribly bleak, both lore wise and gameplay wise.

    Characters

Typical bethesda followers are typical, but to be honest, they did what they could with that ring dialogue. I liked most characters, maybe they were a little…dry, and outside quests their interactions were flat but where Bethesda decided to give them chance to speak, they shined.

But they shouldn’t be romancable, period, your goddamn spouse got shot in the fucking head in front of you.

    Settlements

I enjoyed them. Were they useful? No. I mean post artillery maybe somewhat, but still meh. But i didn’t treat them as integral, but rather creative outlets. This also influences how you see scrap - if you are not builder, take note of the few resources for weapon/armor crafting and ignore the rest, it suddenly gets more actiony. Also, with DLC, robots my beloved.

    Overall

I mostly agree, but then again, my enjoyment jumped immensely once I stopped expecting fallout like depth from Fo4. It’s arcade shooting game with one of the most ingenious building systems and some RPG leftovers.

Most distributions have detailed instructions on their sites, like Linux Mint. But overall, it amounts to:

    1. Choose disteibution
    2. Download it’s installation image ( I recommend LiveUSB version - it will allow you to check if you like it first and most distributions have them )
    3. Prepare bootable usb stick ( I recommend Rufus for that )
    4. When done, reboot your computer choosing usb drive as boot
    5. If LiveUSB version, check out whether you like what you see and if everything works. If you like it, there should be install app on desktop
    6. Proceed with install process. For most linuxes, it’s 1:1 windows installation process, minus ads and forcing you into online stuff.
    7. Enjoy linux ^^

Edit: Also, you can simply download distributions en masse and boot them up in VirtualBox or something to check them out without making USB each time. Allows bypassing requirement of LiveUSB too - you can just install it in its box. However not all distributions like being virtual boxxed

Short Hipocrisy version, because people I also wrote books there:

Windows sucks your data and tries to put ads everywhere. Linux is a type of operating system, that is free and open source - everybody can make their version. Thus, there are no ads, and the moment they try to spy on you, community picks up the torches. So, people who know their stuff rally behind linux. HOWEVER. Linux isn’t windows - it doesn’t support the same programs and needs you to fight off command line anxiety.

Today linux is basically botherless to work with, but even then, I still had to boot up command line to install some old ass drivers or some shit.

Heck, what’s more - there’s only one/two version of active windows, but there’s many linux distributions (which are the “made by other folk” version I talked before), so you can pick the one that fits you. Most folks recommend Linux Mint as it’s the most Windows like experience, but if you like chromebooks there’s also Peppermint OS, and if you want full versatility there’s also Debian.

  • I am so conflicted on this. My partner, as a child, had bad case of asthma. She went to normal doctor…which almost killed her by being overzealos with antibiotics (That doc also almost killed my best friend…). Her mother, a proper believer that natural healing is the way to go, took her then to a homeopath.

    And it worked.

It bloody worked. Shit backed off enough that she’s having a normal life. Granted, that homeopath also had doctorate in medicine and was long time practicing doctor, but shit.

Edit: Note to self, people dislike even actual real histories because homeopathy bad. Heh.

  • Ya see, I’m split on it. On one hand, when I was a kid and I saw videos with old-timey american big shops - be it toys, department or something - all big, open, welcoming with everyone smiling and that super fun and nice atmosphere I was sooo sad I couldn’t experience that.

On the other hand, self checkout cuts roughly 5-10 minutes of time each time I go to the shop, and as I pretty much speedrun what I need and beeline it to checkout, that means I am spending 10 minutes max at any shop with these. It’s so damn convienient I started ignoring shops without it.

But then…I live in european country, and there the only thing preventing theft is a scale inbuilt into self checkout, sometimes coupled with receipt barcode scanner at the exit. Most bigger, and I mean bigger, shops with these have whole one employee per 6-8 of self-checkouts, pretty much there to help in case of approving your age or dealing with more problematic products, like clothing, rarely with something too light for scale to detect.
