It seems daunting, but honestly it’s not that difficult to adjust to using layers or chords on a smaller keyboard, especially when you can assign all those inputs to any key combo you want.

Chords and layers, my guy. Much in the same way you type a capital letter with a combination of two keys (shift + letter), people using smaller keyboards do the same thing for any key you deem “missing”, just with more keys being pressed. There’s even functionality where each key behaves differently depending on whether you tap or hold it.

Technically, you can have only 10 keys (one for each digit on your hand) and still get 2^10 = 1024 unique actions! Forget letters; you can have have whole words encoded in those keys, and voila ~ that’s basically stenography!

If you don’t like it, that’s okay! I’d never be able to use one myself either, but the people who can use it do like it; and besides, it’s all good fun to see what people can do with these layouts.

The QAZ keys on the right is a joke. This keyboard layout is called a QAZ/35% layout, where the Q, A, and Z keys are gone. The Esc, Tab, and Shift keys on the left side default to typing Q, A, and Z respectively, with further keys hidden behind chords and layers.

I believe OP is making this keyboard as a response to someone’s reaction to the QAZ board, right here on Lemmy.

To answer your question, many people prefer smaller keyboards mainly because 1. they’re gamers and want more space for their mouse, and 2. smaller keyboards minimize hand movements and therefore are more ergonomic.

“linux is hard” is a subjective opinion and he is entitled to it. it does not make it misinformation. he is free to express his frustrations at the learning curve, just like any learning curve in any other software.

you don’t. you can try to mitigate it by using less plastic yourself, buying local foods, whatever, but it won’t make much of an impact.

the less bad news is that plastic, by its own properties, is chemically relatively inert, so they’re really not that harmful. they’re still bad, mind you, just not all that hyped up to be.

Fun fact, BG3 only has a max of 4 body types per race, and the lower genitalia each have their own models to fit each body type, and that’s just for the “normal” sized races. The short races also have their body types, and so does the Dragonborn. Each armour and clothing piece has to have one unique model and rig to fit each of those body types; that’s a lot of modeling and rigging work.

i have so many spare sachets of ketchup from mcdonalds, and recently i’ve been experimenting with them to make a good sauce to mix into plain noodles. ketchup, sweet soy sauce, paprika, chili oil, chili flakes, toss in some random spices, and that’s a good noodle sauce.

before finding that combination, i’ve gotten quite a few that were way less palatable.

my alternate answer is spaghetti, just to piss off the italians.

hong kong mcdonald’s is currently serving shaker fries, where you can purchase a packet of seasoning powder along with your fries and shake it all together in a bag.

anyway, my all time favourite (so far) is mcdonald’s honey bbq seasoning; fucking delicious. their sakura shrimp seasoning is pretty good too.

i got frozen fries that i heat up in the air fryer occasionally whenever i get a craving; tried some taiwanese popcorn chicken seasoning (i bought a jar of it from a taiwanese noodle restaurant) on it and it’s really good.

I dunno, you haven’t even pointed anything out yet.

iOS is probably the worst choice if you want to sideload apps. I would recommend sticking with Android and run your Samsung into the ground (maybe flash a custom ROM?) before getting something like a Fairphone.

Besides, what do you want to be “passionate” about in mobile phones? To me, they’re just tools for browsing the web, playing games, and staying in contact with friends and family while on the go; anything extra is superficial.

Games are still very much all functionally tied to framerates; it’s all just a matter of making that logic function the same across different hardware and framerates, generally calculated from frame times (we call it “delta time”).

Freya Holmér has a fantastic mathematical breakdown of one pretty common (and deceptively complicated) framerate-independent function: lerp smoothing.

to be fair, though, 1 and 0 are just binary representations of values, same as decimal and hexadecimal. within your example, we’d absolutely find the entire works of shakespeare encoded in ascii, unicode, and lcd pixel format with each letter arranged in 3x5 grids.
