Jesus Christ, that’s insane. I mean I would have thought maybe even fast food…at least the dollar store has some cereals and stuff but those aren’t much of a solution.

A lot of good, smart people can’t afford to eat food they know for sure is safe. Hell, in food deserts it wouldn’t matter much either way.
They increase spending on really stupid shit that have no legs but will absolutely gut useful services. People aren’t wrong to be mad when they see their stuff get defunded and that’s the important stuff many are going to focus on. So you’re right but it’s not as simple as that.
It’s small because they have zero oversight and they only need to worry about one party. Hurray!
Hey, you’re the one not reading the news and then bitching about people not getting “nuance”.
“Or the news” yes, that much was obvious.
They’re different, even if they’re very similar. The important part is that they look different, too, because if you talked about all the white immigrants taking the white-collar jobs people would have to actually think beyond just a face-value assessment. Brown is bad is a lot easier than person over there could be anything so I need to talk to them and form even a basic relationship with them to figure out what’s going on and by then I might not be able to hate them so absolutely.
Sure but that’s just a bit of colour for the world that sets the genre. The meat of it is all there regardless.
Anyone who would act like that couldn’t even hack it in a developing country today let alone going back in time. Remember, a dystopia is just a third-world country but with white people and that’s different because, uh, reasons.
Those civilizations thought that it was the wrath of a god or two, or some war would consume everything. We have actual scientific evidence that our completely unhinged and largely unregulated use of resources that natural creatures have no access to is destroying our planet.
If the difference is hard to grasp then I’m starting to understand why the U.S. has undecided voters right now.
You mean catwoman, right? That is not Batgirl.
Which is part of why I brought up that it’s valuable as a lot of people here seem to have decided that it’s not. My main sentiment is that we hold it from a lot of people, and instead of going Star Trek future we’re careening towards Cyberpunk 2077 and there are morons who are genuinely excited about that.
Somebody once said that “dystopia is just taking current third world/minority situations and applying it to white people”. I’m bringing it up now because so much of the world currently lives without a lot of that technology simply because using it isn’t immediately profitable. Most* white people do have greater access to newer innovations and discoveries.
(The LLM advancement is that we’re getting closer to being able to use plain language to interface with technology but yea, sure, a couple lonely people can do that I guess and we’ll pretend that it doesn’t land in the dystopia category).
I’ll keep it short, you got a lot of replies already. A lot of the tech is actually quite valuable and a lot of the promises of people like Elon Musk are, for lack of a better term, nearly complete horseshit.
What I’m personally exhausted by is how we’re doing all this and yet we can’t seem to bring ourselves to use it to help anyone. It isn’t the tech or the pace of development rather it’s the fact that we’ll triple someone’s productivity while keeping a five-day work-week with eight-hour days despite a mountain of studies and real-world examples showing how that’s not beneficial for anyone. So much of the development is going towards making the worst people more money and I fucking hate it so much.
I’m trying to get in front of the people who like to try to say “it wouldn’t even do much so we might as well do nothing” and so that doesn’t really help the sarcasm but absolutely I agree.
“If you divide $900m by the popluation of…”
Sorry, just trying to get ahead of the people who should probably find a bridge and help “lower the denominator”, so to speak.
That sounds profoundly lazy and shortsighted…and so is totally believable.
I’m 6’-4.75” (how did you do that 3/4?!?) but say 6’-5”. It’s faster, a quarter inch is basically nothing, wearing socks or shoes changes it, no one is anywhere near my height to moan about it, and frankly being precise would just make me sound like more of a douche than adding ~0.25”.
I’d even rather say “juuuust under six-five” than “six-foot-four-and-three-quarters”.
It actually makes a lot of sense, to me anyway, why the left portion would be more heavily weighted.
6’-0” and up is pretty rare as far as the world goes. 6’-5” is kinda the ceiling for humans barring some exceptions and there are plenty of reasons to stop growing on the way to it while there isn’t really any way to grow bigger.
“Why are my employees not respecting me? Why are they unproductive?”
“Maybe treat them with a modicum of respect?”
“Must be something in the water.”
It’s so easy, and the more the you advocate for removal of “useless” knowledge the happier these people are to get rid of it. And no, they won’t replace it with the other stuff. Good workshops in schools ain’t cheap but the people willing to fuck over their whole country sure are.
Besides, I never took a shop class and I figured out how to do so many things including complicated car repair and fixing my dishwasher. Your problem isn’t that one thing is useful and the other isn’t, it’s what appears to be your inherent lack of curiosity. Being exposed to information is a good thing. Plenty of people much smarter than you are very thankful for it, no need to be bitter.
