Umm. My brain is broken. Somone on the internet just admitted they were wrong.
Faith in humanity +10.
Umm… when they sell… they are realized?
Taxing these billionares this way would equate to taxing you for your houses value going up even though your not selling. Just like how proprty tax works in most states.
The more wealthy should be paying higher taxes, but im not sure wealth tax directly is the way to do it. But this isnt my area of expertise, so im not against it either.
Your right. I dont like windows, but i still like it a hell of a lot more than linux and mac.
Thats fair, i like the crysis style better, which makes sense sine the original was a crtek game.
Should add the battlefield games as well… most people started at 3… though there are more than 2 games before BF3.
My fav is still 2142
I dono how you can start at 2… not playing FC, the original is a travesty.
The morality becomes less important the more your mortality is affected.
They are not stripped for punishment or fun, but because any of them could be a walking clamore mine.
I dont condone the actions of the IDF. I think their current strategy is ineffective and counterproductive in the long run. However, actions like this are easily understood if you put yourself in the shoes of a soldier forced to be in that situation under orders.
Sorry, i just assumed we were at a point where no one other than the 2 of us would be reading this deep.
Yes that is how generations work. But generations in general is a very loose term. If somone in my grandparents’ generation didnt have kids, they would still be the last generation.
But it really doesnt matter. The point is that humanity has only had this ability in the last 100 years or so
No one from the 30’s is still alive?? I better go check on my grandparents.
Also, why the downvote? I was just adding more explanation to a conversation about an idea.
I mean… kinda? If i do the math in my head… if there is a 1 in a million chance every day for something to happen. It seems like it wont happen.
But a million days is just about 2,700 years. The human race has been around maybe 100 thousand? Its a bunch of probabilities stacked on top of each other, in a way that reminds me alot of the Fermi paradox.
And we keep inventing new ways to do it and making the current ways easier. There are also plenty of non self inflicted ways it could happen. Commet or meteor, gamma ray bust, supervolcano, etc.
It really isnt a question of if, but when. Before or after we become interplanetary or better intersolar-system species. My hope at this point is just not in my lifetime.
Ya, by 1st time, i meant in the last generation of humans. Starting in the 30s or so when people started seeing the invention of the things listed above.
I didnt mean like just now in the 2023. Or last decade.
This is also the 1st time in history we could fuck up bad enough that it wont be recoverable. Climate change, nuclear war, biological experimentation, AI… it seems inevitable that we will erase humanity from the galaxy.
There is one main difference in this comparison. If you upgrade your desktop consistently, those old parts are valuable on the used market, which can make the upgrades more affordable. Used laptop parts are less desirable due to their inoperability.
Numbers are not the most important moral decider in war. By your logic, the US or Canada would have been the worst major player in WW2. Intent matters and moral values matter.
Kinda like the extermination of a people including taking hostages, torturing hostages, raping hostages, and executing hostages?
Two wrongs dont make a right, but Israel is by no means worse than HAMAS.
I read it in school, but honestly did not find it to be all that special. Its a good book, but its message was pretty simple and i think modern audiences would agree with the premise immediately.
I found “The Catcher in the Rye” to be the most thought-provoking of high schools books. However, i dont think it really would improve society if more people read it.
If i could think of a book everyone should read to improve humanity, it would have to be something akin to either statistics for dummies, moral philosophy for dummies, or wealth management for dummies.
Two is one, one is none.
I worked for a company that designed home security devices for a few years… Pretty much everyone i talked to agreed there is only 1 actually good security device that is an effective deterrent. Its called “Large Scary Dog”. Every other device is there just to notify you that all your shit is soon to be or already gone.
On the other hand, these digital locks, while not any safer, are much more convenient. I am all in on not having to carry keys and instead have a code to enter or some other easy access.
I do t consider bonds or CDs as gambling. They are guaranteed unless the entire financial institution dies, in which case your investment in ammo matters more than money.
