I think the fact they’re going for a patent suit says they probably think they don’t have enough of an argument for a copyright suit which kind of makes sense. Just because the designs are similar doesn’t mean it’s copyright infringement.

My problem with it is the whole purpose of what the device does based on the post is stupid. It just puts a notification on the screen as a way to try and use social pressure to get people to stop vaping. But that doesn’t work cause no one really cares if you vape or not. Some people might even think it’s cool or might turn it into a game of trying to vape without setting it off to impress their other friends who vape. I graduated highschool in 2019 and people definitely vaped and the only people they really cared about hiding it from were the teachers, no other students cared at all. So because of all of that this kind of device is just a waste of money that could be better spent on educating kids on how vaping is bad, just like what we did for cigarettes that worked so well.
Pretty sure it’s cause they did it without the original people (or person, not sure how many) who did the code. And so what ends up happening is the new people come in, don’t understand why things were made the way they were, and try to rework stuff to be better. Whether it actually is needed or not is a different question but either way reworking large parts of your code is bound to lead to bugs and problems.
I think at this point it’s just an argument of semantics. Yes it’s hyperbole to say they dont make games because they have technically released games. But there is still very much a problem there when the last majorly successful games you released are over 10 years old (I don’t count CS GO 2 as a separate game, it was just an update to an already existing game). Since then all they’ve done is make smaller games like Artifact and Underlords which were just their attempts to cash in on more live service genres and one large project that was VR only. So of course it makes sense why people are gonna say they make no games anymore even if it’s hyperbole. You can try to um actually it and say they have technically released games but that doesn’t mean the problem people are complaining about isn’t there.
Yes technically they are making games but if a large part of your core audience doesn’t want to or can’t play the games you’re making then to them you aren’t really making games. Cause from my perspective I hadn’t even heard about a bunch of these games that valve is making cause they weren’t interesting to me so the marketing for them never reached me. Like the only new things I had heard about valve doing was the new cs go which was less a new game and more just a big update for an existing game and half life alyx which I can’t play without vr. So sure you could say technically valve is making new games but from my perspective they aren’t cause they are all either games I’ve never heard of and after looking into them I’m not interested in them as they’re just more live service micro transaction machines, games I can’t play, or updates/rereleases of existing games.
Yeah I’m not saying they should try and force it for non vr I’m just saying if valve had made a game like that that people could play without having to own an expensive vr headset people wouldn’t complain as much about valve not making games.
Yeah I really hope this is just them following the rules and instead of putting in the work hours for their lawyers to make a privacy policy for their calculator they just have a standard one they use and not them using the calculator to gather data. But it is Google so I wouldn’t be surprised.
Something more substantial than isn’t just some endless live service game or limited to VR only. I think people wouldn’t keep saying this about valve if alyx wasn’t just for vr.
I would believe that but I’m pretty sure this is the default Google calculator. It looks like the same one that’s on my Pixel. And when I click on the privacy policy thing it takes me to Google’s privacy policy so who knows what the calculator is doing.
I remember during the GPU shortage I managed to get a new graphics card from waiting outside a best buy for it to open. So I tried to sell my old one on eBay. Gave good pictures and followed all the rules as far as I could tell but because I had never sold anything on their platform before I was instantly banned with no way to appeal. I get they were probably having to deal with lots of scammers but if I could appeal or talk to support I could literally prove I had the GPU I was selling but as far as I could tell there was no option for that. So now I can’t sell anything on eBay unless I get someone else to sell it for me.
What I hate more are the entry level jobs that will be like that. Like bro it’s an entry level job and you’re expecting people to have a super deep understanding makes no sense. Like I get it’s just marketing and a way to lower the number of applicants to get just the really good ones but it makes it so much harder to figure out what level of skill a job is looking for if they all say they want experts with certain skills or tools.
It’s just smart planning. If you build the oil processing place where you bury dead people after a long enough amount of time you’ll have oil you can get right there!
Yep cause the journalists make money through ads and game developers are usually the ones buying the ad space so they gotta do what the companies want or they might lose their advertising as punishment.
I mean it just released into early access so I mean yeah it makes sense that there isn’t a full game there yet. Personally I like this approach to early access more then the approach a lot of other games take where the full game is there but it’s super buggy and has lots of bad design throughout it. This feels more like a slowly building out and polishing from the start of the game to the end which I think is gonna make a great game once it’s done. And even now while the experience isn’t super long it’s really good and well polished.
If it’s on steam it isn’t even really review bombing. Cause for steam reviews you have to own the game. So this is people who own the game giving a warning to potentially new people who might get the game about what’s going on and a recommendation to not buy it. Usually review bombing is people who have never even played the game or consumed the media reviewing it bad to bomb it for whatever reason. So this definitely isn’t that and they’re just trying to shift the definition of review bombing to any kind of mass negative reviews for whatever reason.
I mean at least when it comes to design it was shit in the past cause either it was being done by people who didn’t know much about design or it was something new and people didn’t know what would be a good design for it. Now it’s shit cause making it shit in certain ways let’s companies make more money.
Then once you do that find a spatial anomaly that causes a time loop so you can keep trying till you get it.
The thing I’ve always noticed about getting more monitors is that you never really think you need one more monitor until you end up getting one somehow. After that you start getting used to the extra space and it feels wrong to go back to having less. When I originally had one monitor I was just used to that and didn’t see anything wrong with it. Once I got two monitors I again felt good and got used to it. It was really nice to be able to watch stuff while playing games or have Unity and Visual Studio on separate screens at the same time. Eventually I got a nicer monitor and decided to go up to 3 monitors which again felt really nice and I found uses for all 3. That’s where I’m at now and I don’t have plans to get anymore but if I ever got a newer monitor there’s a good chance I would end up giving 4 a try cause why let one of my older but still good monitors go to waste. And I imagine I would still be able to find uses for the extra space. I feel like at some point there is a limit but at least so far every time I’ve gained more monitor space even when I’m not sure what I would use it for I always end up using that extra space for something.
You’re forgetting the other advantage of the switch is how cheap it is. If Microsoft can manage to make something that’s inbetween the price of a steam deck and a switch it could be pretty enticing.
Yeah and the only way technology like this might ever get there is with companies like Google and others gathering even more data from you. Which for most people might not be a problem but I’m guessing for people on here you’d probably not like that.
