I think this is my neighborhood. If not, it might as well be.

I use GVIM everyday.
I frequently use CentOS because that is what the embedded system I work on runs.
I use cygwin regularly professionally and at home. Identifying specific software within it is tough, but I definitely use grep and g++ all of the time.
Because people don’t like jumping out of windows to their death.
I was expecting the hilt to sodomize something hideous.
Used to be Dallas was pretty famous- Kennedy shooting, cheerleaders, and a titular TV show.
I’d say Salem, Massachusetts (pop just under 45k) is pretty famous thanks to the witch trials.
As someone who has done some hand coding of AVX-512, I appreciate their willingness to take this on. Getting the input vectors setup correctly for the instructions can be a hassle, especially when the input dataset is not an even multiple of 64.
Who needs inventory management when we can just roll over with stickiness. Let’s make a giant star!
I have a long list of people I would execute if I could get away with it. The transgressions that get you on the list are numerous and varied.
I miss my old UltraSparc with Solaris 2.6.
My parents bought a Plymouth Reliant K Car. It was so bad that no one in my extended family has ever considered purchasing a Chrysler product since. I don’t understand how Iacocca saving Chrysler with the K car was not prosecuted as fraud on the American people. That thing was a piece of shit. My favorite feature was how the air conditioner had a condensation collection tray that would fill with water as it operated. Then when you stopped the water would slosh out onto the feet of the front passenger. The floor in ours eventually rusted from the AC condensate. (Lived in Houston which is both humid and hot requiring year round AC). It had plenty of other problems too (shitty carb, bad brakes, lots of squeaks and rattles). My parents sold it before I was old enough to drive.
Linux came out after I graduated. In my era I had 100s of 3.5inch floppy disks to hold the plunder from sailing the high seas.
I can’t even tell you what us Gen Xers did because I am not sure if the statutes of limitations have run.
Vaguely, it involved ftp and file repositories hosted unwittingly by large companies plus restricted IRC channels to discuss the locations of such places.
Great Dying 2: The Human Boo Boo
I like it because I have been unwillingly participating in it for decades. 70% loss of population on average for monitored species since 1970. It is not going to get better any time soon either.
There is a reason it is called a scrum.
The amount discovered in each of the last three years has been less than a year’s worth of consumption. The global consumption rate is still rising. At some point we will necessarily run out. The lack of readily available reserves has already lead to “innovations” like fracking, oil sands, and deep sea extraction. Those techniques weren’t profitable when production is easy, but they have delayed the inevitable.
I fully expect to see solar powered wells extracting oil that otherwise has a negative EROI in my lifetime.
University of Oklahoma?
I have done quite a bit of C, C++, Ada, and Pascal development. I recently got into Rust. I am still getting used to Rust, but it feels a bit like someone tried to apply Ada to C++. I like the modern development environment, but I am slower writing code than I would be in Ada or C++. The one feature of Ada that I really like and want other languages to adopt is the Rep spec. I write driver code and being able to easily and explicitly identify which symbol corresponds to which bit is really good.
How are they shocked by anything any more? Ho hum, my world is full of carcinogenic hazards at every turn. The ocean is borderline too acidic to support life any more. The glaciers are melting far faster than our models predicted (because any model that predicted these rates was discarded as obviously wrong, politically unpalatable, and likely to prevent the receipt of future grants. Melting arctic permafrost now emits more green house gasses than Japan (#5 emitting nation). Except the worst and you won’t be disappointed.
Why are we training kids on civics with Fox News or MSNBC? People are dumb and will continue to be so.
I planted an oak and a redbud this year. In a couple decades they’ll look okay, I hope. Literally have to wrap them with special paper to keep them from getting sunburned while they are small.
This area naturally only grows trees along creek beds. The natural plants are Blackland Prairie- tall grasses and “weeds.” The HOA would have a cow if I let it go natural.
