Amen. Now, where’s that Wine?
Web Developer by day, and aspiring Swift developer at night.
Amen. Now, where’s that Wine?
FWIW, I’m referring to the local DNS (domain name system) resolver; the mechanism that resolves local domain names into IP addresses so that computers can talk to each other over the LAN.
Here is a good primer on the configuration files and their possible locations: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/latest/resolved.conf.html
Edit: be careful because this is your domain name lookup you’re messing with. 😊
Good point. I did not consider this. Thank you.
You make a terrifyingly interesting point. I did not consider this. Thank you.
I have a smart tv, washer, and dryer. None of them are connected to a network. They can’t do anything “smart” without a network. You don’t need to take apart or disconnect anything. In fact, doing so could cause problems if you nick the wrong wire or component.
Just leave it be and you should be fine.
Brother, I feel a lot of what you wrote. You’re not alone, ok? It’s hard to claw your way out of these deep holes you did. Yourself in; but not impossible. It’s not a matter of desire or effort either. No one wants to live this way.
Now, I challenge you to do three things (assuming you do t already; I don’t know because you didn’t mention it):
Instead of listing the things you fuck up, or suck at, or hate yourself over, I want you to instead list five things you like about yourself.
It’s going to be hard. You’re going to draw blanks. You’re also going to want to add this to your ever-growing of things you hate about yourself (don’t).
But give it time and practice. If you can’t think of five, think of one and then move on with your day. Keep trying each day until you can reach five things, and then increase it to ten.
If you miss a day here or there, that’s okay. This is for you and you only. I’ll get you started though:
I don’t know you from Adam and I was able to come up with five positive things about you. So I know you’ll do just fine with finding more affirmations.
Seek medical help (no, really, hear me out). Find a Doctor to discuss your adhd/add. Also look into a therapist to talk to about this. It’s amazing how much it can help. And even if you feel like you can’t afford, then look for low-cost solutions.
I’ll keep this advice to the minimum because I’m not a doctor and you should never get medical advice from the internet.
Talk to your wife about all of this. Yes, it’s a lot to put in someone, but she loves you and doesn’t want you to through this alone. Let her help you.
I lied. I thought of a fourth thing. Take a nap. When you get so worked up like you described, it may just be a sign that you’re physically and mentally tired. A nap can help you feel better. If you can’t take a nap, maybe take a hot shower. Stand under the water and let it cover you.
Look, take everything I said above with a grain of salt. Like I mentioned, I don’t know you, so my advice may be way off base. But, some things are harmless to try (like affirmations or napping/showering).
Anyway, from one lost soul to another, I hope you find your way through. I know I’ll be rooting for you.
You make mostly good points — I still disagree, but I can at least see your side.
The divorce and kids thing though is not what you think it is. Divorce and child custody agreements are two separate legal things and child custody agreements are thankfully not a matter of public record.
I don’t like the existence of billionaires anymore than the next reasonably-sane pleb does. But someone’s financial/social status should never be a consideration to their constitutional right of privacy. You’ll just have to find some other way to harangue them for their behavior.
Why? To publicly humiliate a person? Not everyone is evil; people fall on hard times. It happens. A lot. Why should they be further harassed by predatory practices of being offered loans after they’ve hit the rock bottom of their financial world? Because the first thing that happened when I filed for bankruptcy was to be offered a mortgage loan.
I believe some things (like DMV records) are fee based. But the fee is nominal and wouldn’t stop any predator from doing bad things if they are so inclined. The only thing adding fees does is to financially incentivize keeping the data online and accessible to anybody who pays.
The first thing I expect of anybody is to read and comprehend the things they reply to.
Nowhere in my comment did I say that people should stop creating communities. In fact, what I did say was that we should be able to categorize communities using tags. I even suggested that people. For example, using these tags to filter or find communities of interest.
So yeah, there’s that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’ve never understood why things like this have to be a part of public record. Traffic accidents, traffic citations, bankruptcies, buying a house, and even getting divorced.
All of those are very personal things that should never be a part of public record. And even if they are, the PII should not.
You might try ani.social instance for more anime.
Not when that thing has dozens of communities for every little nuance a genre can have. For example:
It comes and goes in waves I believe. There was a time when you’d see a wave of Moe themed communities. The same has happened for music, and ai too. If you haven’t seen it, or don’t recall, then count yourself lucky.
It’s not just anime, but also (in my experience) music, games, and ai. They seem to feel that there needs to be a community for every. single. possible. sub-genre. 😞
You can say the same for politics, memes, and many other genres for that matter. And I have no doubt there are those that are bothered by it too. Yes, we can all hide away under our local or subscribed feeds, but that’s a narrow-minded and xenophobic solution. We all should be able to scroll whatever feed, using whatever sort, we choose to use and not be assailed and harassed by these fervent die-hard (possibly ocd) “fans” of whatever genre du jour there happens to be.
It’s a shame that Lemmy does not have a way to tag communities by genre. And it’s a shame most communities probably wouldn’t use it even if it were supported. It would not only help filtering out specific content, but conversely it would help with content discovery. Of course there is also any potential for abuse, because let’s face it, there are those that will just because they can. But I do t feel that’s worth not having a useful feature like tagging or whatever you want to call it.
Let’s be honest, they’d probably already be screaming foul play regardless.
Because it’s not simply “distributing” the load; it’s actively hiding an instance as if it doesn’t exist. So what do they do when the next instance gets “too big” for their liking? Hide it, along side LW? And the next?
Re-read my comment — specifically the second half where I offer a potential solution that would actually distribute the load more fairly without having to hide anything.
Did I? Completely unintentional. I meant for it to be blatant and obvious. 😉
