They don’t. They update with regular packages. The updates are atomic though and are only applied at next boot, so there’s less of a risk of weird breakages.

I guess that depends. If the costs to invest in storage is cheaper long term than losing money from excess energy, then energy companies would lose less money and thus could offer cheaper prices. But it would definitely help decrease or get rid of negative prices.

In isolation, it’s very obviously a bad thing, because it makes solar less profitable and might slow down the switch to renewables.

A lot of the mainstream apps definitely have privacy issues. They often sell data about their users menstrual cycles which can theoretically be bought by anti-abortion activists/authorities on the free market to track whether someone might be pregnant.

StreetComplete and its expert editions are definitely my favourite way to contribute to OpenStreetMaps on mobile. There’s also Vespucci which allows you to do more complex stuff like add paths and shape, but the UI isn’t super great imo. Organic Maps which I use for navigation actually allows you to edit and contribute quite a bit.

Yes, and Germany will probably not be too dissimilar. The difference in magnitude here comes from just looking at directly emitted CO² vs all greenhouse gase emissolns in general. If you add all those up, methane emissions particularly, the picture becomes a very different one. This is also what the oeko institur is talking about their post (emissions from lifestock), so it makes sense to care about that.

Video Transcoder on F-Droid allows you to convert and cut videos at least, but it hasn’t seen an update in ages and the cutting process isn’t 100% precise, so you might end up with ± a second of what you intended.

The NED has been funding some NGOs for decades, so these groups, which prior to the sunflower movement mostly didn’t even exist and didn’t have an organizational structure to direct funds to in the first place surely were funded by them as well. Some absolutely impeccable and waterproof logic there.

The DPP wasn’t even a very instrumental actor in the sunflower movement. It was largely student led and of those people that participated in it that went into politics, most went to different smaller parties. I lived in the country during the time that happened and to claim that foreign interference played any meaningful role is just absurd on its face. Maybe don’t try patronizing entire populaces from afar as if they somehow weren’t able to make their own decisions and come to their own conclusions.

Well they basically tried that already. They tried to strike up a trade agreement with the then ruling conservative power that would give China significant economic and thus political influence. But the Taiwanese people were smart enough to see through that. There was a popular uprising, the legislative building got occupied by student protestors, the agreement was retracted and the then president lost the next election in a landslide.
