I don’t think a Thatcher type could win in the US (thankfully) - there are a ton of evangelicals who don’t believe in women having authority on the Republican side, even if that woman is a hateful cow who believes the same things they do.

Jokes on those people, now people live in vans on purpose (and I definitely can’t afford one).
Maybe she’s poisoning you just a tiny bit at a time. Kidding, but have you guys eaten a meal at home together without you feeling sick?
No thank you. The eggs would have to be enormous to develop into a human baby, and laying one of those every month would suck.
My coworker had a full hysterectomy in her late 30s for the same reason and she’s described it as basically a living hell for about a year. Just a complete nightmare where she felt like her body completely turned on her and she had no control over anything it was doing - hearing about it made my attitude about keeping my ovaries much more enthusiastic. BUT she was pretty much fully through menopause after that year, so the good news is that your wife’s situation is likely pretty temporary. The bad news is that a year can feel like much longer when things aren’t going well, and I’m guessing she can’t do any hormone replacement to ease her symptoms because of the cancer risk. I did keep my ovaries and I’m still having some hormonal nonsense (pseudo hot flashes are not making me real optimistic about the real thing, let me tell you), so I can only imagine how much that sucks.
The thing is, you’re probably not actually doing anything wrong, it’s just a total tsunami of fuckery in her body atm that’s making her feel that way. I would suggest marriage counseling, because it’s possible that a neutral third party can help your wife see that, even though she’s not totally in control of her body or feelings right now, she still doesn’t get to make you feel like shit and she might end up destroying a relationship she still wants once she’s past this stage. There’s no easy solution, though, it’s just everyone putting their heads down and pushing through it, unfortunately.
I doubt they’re taking it personally. A lot of people who very much do need help say the same thing you did, and they don’t know you. All they know is that you’re unhoused and refusing assistance.
Oh I don’t feel like I need to be welcoming to people who have no intention of listening and are just there to be dicks. I just don’t want to push away anyone who might be open to the idea of changing their diet by immediately telling them what a terrible person they are for not doing it already. It’s important to me not just to reduce the harm I do, but to try to minimize it elsewhere if I can.
Well let’s not pretend people don’t routinely use the downvote as a disagree button. And you’ll notice I never said the mod in question was 100% right or wrong, just that I can see how people on both sides end up angry.
Not to be all “not like the other girls” about veganism, but I kind of hate the general vegan communities. They always end up turning into a who can hate meat eaters the most contest and the less extreme members usually leave. It’s also really frustrating because the goal should be to get more people eating plant based, and their methods just push people away. Yeah, of course I believe people should stop eating meat, and I struggle to understand how someone can acknowledge the cruelty of factory farming and turn around and eat a burger, but shouting them down isn’t accomplishing anything. I’m not going to engage with the people who show up just to talk shit, but I’m down to talk to anyone actually open to a conversation.
That said, there are a lot of people who think it’s suuuuper funny to seek out vegan communities to make the same tired ass comments that lead to vegans becoming angrier and more insular, so I really don’t want to make this a Vegans Bad comment. I get the desire to tell people to fuck off. It’s exhausting to try to talk about a news article and be constantly drowned out by trolls.
OP, I don’t know what your comment said, but you know whether or not you were engaging in good faith. Maybe you deserved the ban, maybe not. I just think maybe sometimes we could all stand to keep scrolling.
There’s a vegan sushi/ramen place near me that makes something between musubi and onigiri with vegan spam and they’re crazy good. So that’s one use for it.
Hard no. My day job is in government and I cannot take one more meeting in my life. I’ve attended some of the HOA meetings and they were actually worse than pretty much every meeting I have at work, because they last forever and the stakes are so stupid.
I finally got a 12 foot skeleton but our stupid HOA doesn’t allow Halloween decorations before 10/1. I think I need a festive fall outfit for it so I can say it’s not Halloween, it’s just seasonal.
For me, agreed. I live in a desert, work a sedentary job, and spend the vast majority of my time freezing in the ac because I’m not warm unless it’s like 76 degrees. My skin is happier if I skip a day and I try to save water whenever possible. But for other people, they know their stink levels better than me, and I’m not gonna tell anybody else how to wash themselves. Unless they’re like my ex, taking 2 or 3 showers a day for literally no reason and running up the water bill in, again, a damn desert. I did tell him to knock that off.
Everyone has to learn what it’s like to throw the wiimote directly at the tv for themselves.
Oh damn, I haven’t tried it because I have so much hot sauce that I’m on a no buy. I still have a bottle of the Huy Fong new stuff my mom bought without realizing it wasn’t as good, but I was planning to try the Underwood one as soon as I run out.
Apparently the original supplier for Huy Fong (Underwood Farms) makes their own version now, and it’s how Huy Fong used to taste.
It’s $2350 to renounce, not $10k.
Yeah you didn’t remember correctly at all. The fee to renounce citizenship is ~$2300 for everyone. For the IRS piece, you file a final tax return the year you renounce citizenship, and they check to see if you’ve been compliant and paid everything you owe for the previous 5 years, but the exit tax only kicks in if you’re worth over $2 million, paid an average of a shitload of taxes (like more than twice the US median household income, so most people aren’t going to qualify) over the previous 5 years, or don’t certify that you’re in compliance. IF you have a lot of money, they treat it as though you’ve sold everything you own and calculate what that would be worth, deduct $821,000 (as of last year), then tax the rest of the amount they calculated. Then you’re done, unless you happen to have US income after that.
I’m not personally insulted. I just think it’s incredibly shitty to treat dating like some kind of caste system where people “belong” at a certain level. I can see why you said you can’t “score” anyone that you view as more attractive when you view things that way.
They do, but there are enough conservatives who really hate women that I don’t think we’ll see a female Republican nominee for a long time. VP again, sure, but look at how a lot of people talked about Nikki Haley. She’s plenty authoritarian and a ton of them hated her.
