  • Fair. But that’s not really earth scale thinking in my book. It’s more our best understanding based on what we know.

I know of these theoretical work arounds. They’re more mathematical models that say if such a thing as negative mass exists, then we might be able to go faster than the speed of light. Issue is that the model does nothing to show that negative mass exists.

That and everything we know shows that it does not exist. If it did I would be incredibly happy. It’s just wishful hoping at this point though. We don’t even have a model or theory that shows how negative mass could exist. We only have theories that show what could happen if it did exist.

It’s like saying hm we know how F=m*a works. What could happen if we set m to a negative number? Yah in the math we can but that does not mean we can in reality.

  • A drop in the bucket isn’t event close to a good understanding of how big space is. A satellite in the ocean is grossly misleading when it comes to the scope of space.

Maybe a single O2 molecule in the ocean might be closer but even then that’s not even close to the scope of space.

Space is big. So big that the light cone of our “pollution” can’t physically interact with most of it even if we did our best to “pollute” as much as we can and some alien species did their best to find that “pollution”. Space is so big that physics dictate the impossibility of our “pollution” interacting with most of space.

Fun fact this is why the chance of aliens visiting us here on earth is basically 0.

You can’t use earth scale thinking, that’s how big space is.

This all being said we should do our best to not pollute the earth. We should use earth scale thinking when it comes to earth.

  • We had Trump and the world did not end for you. If you live in the USA that makes you one of the privileged. I know many whose world did end. Good for you that you were not affected. But have empathy for those who where.

We had Biden and much harm reduction was done. The downward slope was lessened. Imagine if Trump got a 4th Supreme Court justice! Imagine if Biden was not there to undo the explicitly harmful policies that hurt less privileged people. Biden winning increased in a notable and serious way those who are the least privileged.

It may be true that the American quality of life has gone down. But voting 3rd party only makes it go down faster. If you just don’t care go for it. But the mathematics of FPTP systems mean that voting 3rd party only hurts your interests.

Biden did not act with empathy when he gave supplies to Israel. But Trump will act with glee and encouragement when he would give supplies to Israel.

I encourage everyone to vote with empathy and think of the least privileged when voting everywhere.

  • I wouldn’t say it’s a theory. Just my thoughts / speculation. I would speculate that people who are pushing out RT / Alex Jones level content would be more hesitant to do so if there would be a big “this is not a reliable news source” sticker next to it.

I would speculate that people who point Alex Jones / RT stuff just hope people read the article without thinking about where it comes from.

  • While I acknowledge that the MBFC does have some right wing bias, I think it serves its purpose. Aka to flag literal propaganda “news” sites.

The titles are literally accurate in the image. Israel is (unethically) launching preemptive strikes.

If you look at the .ml news communities that don’t use MBFC you will see that way too many news stories are from literally Russia Today, Southern China Morning Post, and other extremely biased to a very particular agenda publications.

I think people are trying to tie MBFC to being Zionist just so the bot will be dropped and it will be easier for them to normalize things like Russia Today outside of .ml spaces.

  • If you actually read the article it seems pretty factual. It lists Bush’s claims and then has a response. Seems to merit the rating.

The reporting of the Bush administration’s position and the response seems fair.

    **IRAQ:**

STATUS: Since 1998, the Iraqi government has barred U.N. weapons inspectors from examining sites where some suspect that nuclear, chemical or biological weapons are made and stored. The United Nations has said it will lift sanctions against the Middle Eastern country -- in place since Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and the ensuing Gulf War in 1991 -- only if inspectors can verify that Iraq has dismantled all its weapons of mass destruction. In an editorial this month in a state-run newspaper, Iraq again denied it has or is developing such weapons.

RESPONSE TO BUSH'S SPEECH: "This statement of President Bush is stupid and a statement that does not befit the leader of the biggest state in the world," Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan said Wednesday.
