I’ve always had a preference for Balma, it’s unfortunate she becomes less and less important as time goes on and the characters outgrow the need for tech. She’s a genius inventor, though!

Iirc, the leak was from steam achievements being posted to another game and that sort of tipped people off. Seems like a pretty dumb mistake, if it really is a mistake anyway.

When I think “AI will end humanity” I was thinking a sort of Skynet type deal, not… this. Sigh.

In LA, my situation was mostly playing video games at friends’ homes after school. I’ve taken buses since I was in middle school, though, and had a key to my home. That said, my dad is and was an abusive alcoholic, so I generally stayed out as long as possible.

Mind you, how unsafe the city is isn’t really true in many neighborhoods, especially if you’re with other teens. You can always hang out at various locations like malls, parks, the beach, library or at school. You have a lot of options in the city, especially if you’re willing to take a bus or bike places. I had friends who volunteered for Heal the Bay, for instance.

If this is political, so is everything else-- people politicize everything lately, much to the detriment of the kids. In this case, all I see are some lovely books going back on the shelves, hopefully accompanied by more to come. Thanks for sharing!

My HOA is badass because it’s really just one paranoid nice lady who lets literally anyone know if a trunk is open or if someone suspicious entered, etc. I’d complain about privacy but who the fuck hangs out in hallways?

But they had a nightmare prior to me moving here. Long story short, the former board member ran a slip & fall legal case against herself which paid out to the tune of 4 million. The insurance company refused to fight it (despite the lack of evidence) and instead settled immediately, recouping their costs by raising the building’s costs four fold.

This resulted in high HOA fees while that lady just fucking bought a house and left. Her sister sticks around, though, and on multiple occasions, stolen cars have been in our garage in their spot or in the guest spot as their “guest”.

Now that I said the last part, that’s still happening and I change my answer to that also being my nightmare HOA situation. Lol

Brah, if you try and root many phones, shit like Knox fucking bricks your phone out of spite. They’ve been putting anti-consummer shit into devices for decades now, let’s not pretend that puts everyone in the same 99.9%.

It actually has more to do with training and education. In developed nations, people get more education and the result is a larger void in the low skill labor force who are employed by them. Ironically, more education results in lower wages for white collar work and higher wages for blue collar work, haha. Unfortunately we rarely talk about education, economics and immigration in the same breath, so it’s rarely addressed in politics.

Automation also adds a wrinkle, as low skill labor has been automated with technology. It’s credited as one of the major contributions to the wage gap, as efficiency is a boon to the owning class, not the working class. But I digress…

I’ve heard that criticism. The upside was they right have a damage report after every freaking attack, and the speed was a lot faster paced. Granted I like a simpler system since you can still optimize it (but good luck remembering ex combos lol).

Plus in the first one you can throw rotten bananas at people. Some of the cards were a little out there.

Historically, US actually was quite welcoming of immigration, including from Mexico. It tends to ebb and flow. I was taught by an economist that typically you open the flood gates when you want the labor, while restricting it when you don’t. To him, labor works just like goods in supply/demand curves. Flooding a market can drive down value of labor, etc., which can be bad for local workers. Obviously it’s a little more complex, but that’s the jist.

The trouble is, with globalization, one must wonder if that S/D curve is still valid. I imagine it is in some sectors, but in others, those jobs have been outsourced. If this is a bigger strain on demand, then it’s better to keep immigration on lock. That would at least help explain why it’s so hostile currently, but I’m just thinking out loud. I don’t necessarily agree with the economist approach.

I just finished and mastered the second Baten Kaitos game on GC. Every single Magnus, every side quest, every mix, etc., for retroachevements. It was brutal.

I did both games this past month and man to I want to talk about some of the twists but nobody knows what the fuck I’m talking about, haha.

I mean, it’s been here for beta years and yes, it is absolutely fantastic. The one year penalty keeps me from handing it out like candy to extended family and friends (plus we all have that cousin who can’t be trusted) while I can let my wife and kids play games on my account without them kicking me out of mine.

The parental controls are good too, although I’m not using them yet since my kids are too young to really pick their games from the library themselves.

All good. Also I’ll look into that game, I think I got a copy at some point. It’s the kind of thing I think I’d like.

I think the down votes are because the post is ultimately about the reliance on online libraries being flawed, which steam certainly is. Honestly, it often feels like steam will be around until the heat death of the universe, but alas I always figure I’m good though at piracy that all my purchases are essentially a donation, anyway.

That said, I think I heard that they have a policy that if it were to come to that, any files made local on your machine are yours and can still play them. Might be tricky if it’s drm and they go poof, though.

As much as I want to fight them to the death over it, I fixed the spelling. My wife is still reluctant to get US citizenship, so I’m ready to duel on her behalf!
