Everyone needs a hobby, but definitely not a hill.
From the main protagonist from Linux sucks, because I downvoted it and everything in that community and that idiot’s post history. Lol
I thought this was going to be an American joke about automatics, but then realised that this is like when I explained to younger colleagues that I just drove my car home ‘crash gearbox style’ when the clutch failed, some were amazed that it was even possible. (Match the revs and feel the gear mesh) Edited to add: when I first tried linux on a pc with CRT monitor, to get a gui going I had to roll my own modeline. Bzzt, oh not that value, ctrl-c try another one. Such funsies
You’re Hugo Rune, and I claim my five pounds!
Linux mint: ex windows guy? I take offence, I’m an ex-SuSE 4.2, ex-macOS, windows only at work guy. (My cinnamon is themed to have macOS ish appearance btw.) [and I lied, not ex-mac as such, I have a few macs round the house, and built my Linux machine to run games on steam/lutris, around a spare gfx card that came out of my classic Mac pro5,1]
Linux Mint has been the best choice of Linux for the past year and it has a great community and a lot more people to follow along on Linux and Windows platforms as it has been a long and difficult transition for Linux Mint to make
Bizarrely, for a very self positioned premium beer company, they made a very cool sharing of their recipes for home brewers, DIY DOG
Wow. I think the big changeover here will be the electric vehicle. By default they’re auto and will determine the future of transmission type as they become more common. We also have a culture of passing the driving test in a manual, so that you can drive both. An automatic driving license does not allow us to drive manual vehicles.
Is that really not common? I’m in the U.K., and <30% of cars might be auto, when I look at used car sales these days.
I get this reference.
SuSE linux 4.2 about 1994-6 ish? Fond memories of having to roll my own modelines to get crt monitors working. Used the various versions until the sell out to Novell and the controversy with Microsoft. Then a really big gap with some macs and now I’ve just started using Mint on a mini itx machine I’ve put together just for that use.
I found that all my keyboards didn’t have functional modifier keys while gaming, in wayland. Switched back to default cinnamon, and it all works fine again. Linuxmint
Did you build it yet? And how did it go? I’ve just built a fractal terra jade, with a nearly completely spare parts bin spec; Vega56 (ex-classic Mac Pro) i7 2600 (ex-iMac 2011) 2x4gb ddr3 ram (also ex cMP) 1tb SDD 500watt silverstone SFX-L (toight!)
Running Linux Mint 21.3 Have installed WoW via Steam compatibility mode, and playing all my steam catalogue as trials. Borderlands 2, Pre-sequel, wolfenstein old blood, and some GOG games. It’s actually very competent at 1080p and I’m not finding I’m having to turn much settings down to enjoy good frames.

My case was purely, that I had upgraded the gpu in my classic Mac Pro, and thought that a SFX pc build could be done with the old gpu and a power supply and mobo. It started out with a cheap mobo, to hold only an old i7 from an imac that was parted out, and 8gb of ram (2x4 sticks I had spare) and the vega56. I found it so capable a system, that the only issue was ram when I forgot about the dozen tabs open on a browser, and the game just launched would hang the system. Before I would ‘waste’ spending money on the max 16gb that this board could hold, I started collecting the parts for it’s current setup; a520i, ryzen5 5600x , 64gb, nvme ssd and the gpus I’ve now swapped between the cMP so now it’s a rx5700xt. Use is purely a spare, don’t want a windows machine, I’ve got the mac for a server/media machine, so it’s all purpose and games on the Linux box. Although I have got dual boot capability set up on both just because I could, maybe something really offside would need w10 - one example; VCDS car diagnostic software that doesn’t support anything but win.
