There never was an American Dream because that’s a concept only constructed by and for the rich to take advantage of. The American Dream consists of doing so little while hundreds to thousands do the work for you. All you have to do is dress pretty, say words and oversee things at the comfort of some luxurious office and visit your five homes scattered across several states.
I think the American Dream was that you could support a family and buy a house in a blue collar single income salary, while in other countries you would just strave to death. But 5 decades of “…close the door behind you” economics have made that impossible.
