  • Prometheus.

The Romans/Greek gods were as shitty as gods usually are. Sisyphus wasn’t so much punished for his crimes as he was for being a smartass to the gods. Sisyphus literally stopped everyone on Earth from dying, and because Ares the God of War complained that wars were no longer fun because no one died, it was undone. The claim that Sysiphus suffered his punishment because of how he toyed with people’s lives is gaslighting, the gods did that all the time. Sysiphus’ biggest crime was not being another god.

We do not share his punishment thankfully because gods are fiction. Unfortunately, there’s no shortage of Sysiphuses or enemies of Sysiphuses with the same or more power that would either act the same or worse.

  • I offered criticism because that’s what I had with the activity you were promoting. Yes, it was my opinion. Did the words “I don’t believe” not tip you off? I then proceeded to explain why I had it, yes. Generally, comments people make are their own opinion.

however weird or dumb that might be

    Or in other words

Ok that’s a very good argument

I’m sure I would lose, arguments only work on the willing.

Anyway, this conversation has reached its end, byeee.

  • You’re spouting literal in-game billboard propaganda.

Sure, bud, totally not the case of you misframing my comment as it.

What exactly is the point of the game again according to you? Who’s playing right enough for you?

You must have failed to read the part where I am not playing Eve anymore. The game is an addiction hook with a lot of (but not all) game mechanics that really aren’t that good.

  • You’ve suddenly brought up “hate mining” and “elitist” out of nowhere, when all I did was make observations about the activity. It is not inherently fun IMO. You also bring out “no engagement”, which is another gross exaggeration of minimal engagement. And if you think the gankers aren’t mining, you really haven’t gotten out of your solar system to explore. You seem to be stuck within the bubble even within the game, and you will be socially manipulated for it.

I haven’t played Eve in years, and have only “ganked” in a few minor instances and enough to realize that it also wasn’t a fun mechanic, it was just exploiting the uninformed and the careless within the statistics, and it didn’t so much require effort or skill so much as preparation. There’s also quite a bit of a similarity between the dopamine hook the people who gank have to the people who mine, although there’s a lot more sadism as well.

  • The people who are most successful don’t just stick to one defined job, they min-max to the extreme. They can be taking down freighters with their multiboxed destroyers one day, and they can be multibox moon mining with orcas the following day.

I don’t believe there is anything fun about mining. It’s just an activity that when you believe you’ve sufficiently secured yourself enough you can do with relative minimal investment in it. Usually the people who mine the most aren’t enjoying Eve, they are enjoying the conversations and the Netflix they are watching on the side. About the only thing tickling the dopamine with mining is getting to think you are getting ahead from doing a comparatively less stressful activity for longer than other people doing riskier activities more prone to failure and doing so for less amount of time, allowing you to fantasize about how you will spend your gains in the future. Mining barely has any user involvement as a game mechanic in Eve, there are idle games with more user interaction.

I’ve completely stopped playing MMOs, but there is a difference when it’s an online service. What I consider absurd are the publishers and developers who close down their MMOs when they still have players who have invested and will invest money into it, without even considering selling it off. I’m looking at you, NCSoft. Almost happened to Spiral Knights, and because it didn’t, it’s still going. It’s like they think that people playing them are players that would otherwise playing their new MMOs, when the reality is they avoid those publishers that don’t respect their persistence and investment.

There’s also a lot of MMO’s with no subscription and plenty of whaling. But cosmetics are cosmetics, there’s people that can legitimately complain about a $90 dollar mount if it gives an unfair advantage when they would otherwise not mind paying for just cosmetics. But there are people who don’t mind unfair advantages in certain games either, as long as they have a F2P model and the devs have a good rep.

Nowadays, what drives me off is the feeling of never getting the full experience, having to constantly feel that way to avoid getting caught in predatory addiction loops they implement, and just being able to buy a full, self-contained experience for what would otherwise be two months of subscription in an MMO.

  • It’s funny that the term they ingratiated themselves with is derived from expatriate, which generally is several times more concerning than the term immigrant because of how it much more closely implies relinquishing nationality. Or just from how the wording sounds - ex, or no longer being, a patriot - although it is on par with how much more “American” some people seem to consider sovereign citizens being than democrats.

The ridiculousness of a nation of immigrants to recognize that they have their own immigrants with their own goals and obstacles has led to the absurd and abusive treatment of the people termed “Accidental Americans” outside of the US.

  • It has been growing, but it depends on the community the people who are submitting posts of each community. It also depends on the engagement of the discussion and whether participation decays or is allowed to decay into toxicity.

I think Lemmy could be doing a lot more than Reddit, like showing who votes what, but people want the ability without the responsibility or transparency. It’s ironic because not only is it perfectly visible to the admins, but there are ways you can get a pretty good idea of who’s performing them as a normal . It would help not just in the sense of getting a better idea of why or where someone is coming from and prevent false suspicions, but it would also allow you to keep different groups of users whose recommendations might be something you would like to prioritize over other submissions or whose moderation you’d like to favor over the standard. Abusing the transparency would be easy to denounce and moderate, too.

In regards to the modlog, I don’t think it’s doing enough, the text in the reason field might as well be “word” and the transparency isn’t compensating for the lack of a resolution process that many if not all social networks seem to want to skip. There are still things like no notification of mod actions that affected your comments or your user, and some decisions, like allowing mods to ban you, remove some of your comments while allowing others to remain, shaping or serving a narrative without giving you the ability to delete or edit your contributions while the ban is in place, give foreign instances and communities more power than they should have.

There’s no way to contest modlog actions within the modlog, and the maturity of the people has been proven to be very, very questionable when they’ve been outed. It has also adopted reddit’s policy of obfuscating the moderator performing an action even though creating an alt is easier than ever and many of them already have them, which works against the supposed commitment to transparency.

But it’s very slightly better than reddit’s, and there’s nothing like shadow bans here. Parting observations, don’t feed your carnivore pet vegetables if you aren’t prepared to go all the way to seek and get an approved diet and dietary supplements for a bonafide veterinary, and it’s funny seeing all the anarchy people not have a problem with the present power imbalance between the users and the leadership within the current system, but then again, they have a nice instance with the label.

    Overall, fuck spez.
